i registered yesterday for a week long manuscript study of the book of mark. may 1-7. aaaaah
hard to get my brain around the expensive-ness, but i know it's totally worth it.
manuscript study is: print out a passage (you can copy and paste from any online bible source...NRSV works best b/c of wording and all that), having taken out chapter and verse references, double spaced with huge margins. maybe even put in some line numbers. then get all the colourful markers you can find (staedtler fineliners are flippin amazing---maybe they'll sponsor city/sript--you know everyone will be using them---) and mark it up! words that match, repeats, themes that come back, questions that you have, just observe what's going on in the passage. do it with a group, and the next stage is sharing your observances together, out loud. (hint: try not to look at any other passages or interpretation--this is strictly observance stage!) (we did this with 200 people at NEWT! hilarious!) THEN you go into the hows and whys. and application. but you don't absolutely need the structure--GBS is fun, because we randomly mush the whole thing together into a big discussion, but we definitely talk a lot!
i think my favourite part is the end result:
it's so pretty! and for visual/artistic/colourful learners...a major breakthrough in bible study...:P this is also a print project that i'd like to do, if the strike is over in time and if i get my unmotivated bum in to sheridan to work: take out the script and just print all the observances. as a big riot of colour. aaaaaah
so, city/script: imagine the entire book of mark (well, the first half) lookin like this---7 hours a day, 5 days straight, of this...haha, looking forward to it!
speaking of mark: the mark project. march 23rd, 7:30 in CCIT 1080 (UTM campus) 2-person drama presentation of the gospel of mark. come check it out! (lecture hall for 500 people! bring everyone you know!) (there's a link there if you want to research)
and yes, gus, as a canreffer, i am supporting this christian drama. stepping out of the ghetto. :p
